Meta-Owned Instagram Tests New Feature Called Flipside.

Instagram, owned by Meta, is trying out a new feature named Flipside. This could be a solution to the 'fiesta's' issue while providing users with a more private way to share things with close pals and family.

Adam Mosser, the Head of Instagram, responded to a question about bringing Flipside to Threads, saying, "We're not sure if we'll launch it on Instagram. It feels good to create a clear and private space, but it's another way to reach a smaller audience, along with secondary accounts and Close Friends. Let's see how people react in the test, and we'll go from there."

A Meta Executive confirmed to TechCrunch that the company is indeed testing this feature. The spokesperson mentioned, "We're always finding new ways to help people connect on Instagram. People want more options for sharing privately, so we're excited to test a feature where you can make a custom profile, including a custom name, bio, and photo, and share exclusive content with a smaller group of followers."

What is Flipside?
Flipside first came to attention when Alessandro Palazzi, a reverse engineer, shared screenshots in December. The screenshots suggest that Instagram might present Flipside as "a new space just for you and your friends" where only selected people can see your profile and shared content.

Social media consultant Matt Navara recently spotted the feature on Instagram and demonstrated how it works in a video. Flipside acts as an alternate profile, allowing users to share reels or posts visible only to the chosen people.

This new feature could be Meta's response to the problem of 'fiesta's' – fake Instagram accounts created by individuals, including celebrities, to interact with close friends.

The term 'fiesta's' gained attention in 2021 when Senator Richard Blumenthal questioned a Meta executive during a congressional hearing about the company's commitment to ending 'fiesta's,' as reported by TechCrunch.
